While I was studying in India, I used to long for the moment when I would come home and go to the local markets like Gikomba and Ngara. I longed to rummage through piles of clothes frantically searching for that perfect, unique item of clothing that I will not find the rest of the world wearing. I missed the shoe being sold for 200 or 300 shillings. I also missed going to the hairdresser’s to get my hair done in the latest styles.
But when I got here, I was somewhat disappointed. The ladies looked like a copy of each other. From their hairstyles, to their dressing, to the way they carry themselves.
I know it’s easy to be someone else. It’s easy to forget who you are mainly because you think that the person next to you has a better life and always seems to have it all figured out.
But we can’t all be the same. We are, each one of us is, a unique being, created in the image and likeness of God. He has given you and me unique abilities, mindset and character that is inherently yours.
To borrow a line from Bruno Mars, You are amazing just the way you are. So this week, instead of doing things because everybody else is doing them, check to see whether or not that little voice inside you is screaming stop! If you don’t want to go out, just tell your friends no. If you are not happy with what the tout or salesperson is doing, speak up. If you are living a life that is expected / demanded of you and not what you want, make a change!!!
Remember, you are beautiful and unique. Let go of anybody who is trying to make you someone you are not. Those who care about you shouldn’t want to change a thing about you but should love you just the way you are, because you are amazing.
Have a blessed Sunday and an awesome week!!
