Wrap Skirt + Sequin Vest

I have been watching House of DVF and as a result, I have fallen in love with wrap dresses, wrap skirts and wrap tops. I love the chic-ness of this effortless style and hey, DVF is one of my idols so it is inevitable that I will fall in love with one of her signature looks. This skirt was bought at my smallest and I only got to wear it once (see post here) before I had Elly. Thereafter, I wondered what I would do with it. So I turned it into a headscarf and one time when I was having a bad hair day I made a turban. But with some of my pre-baby clothes starting to fit once again, I just had to try it out as a skirt and guess what? I could rock it! I was oh so happy.
I wore it with a white vest and added a sequin half coat that I bought at a HUGE discount. I had missed my sling backs so they made an appearance when going to church. A pair of black and gold earrings, a watch and red lip completed my outfit.

This past weekend I had an experience that left me questioning a few of my beliefs. I went somewhere and had to remove my earrings, because they were inappropriate. I was left wondering whether I would survive in a place (offices, places of worship, cultural places) that has a prescribed dress code. I like to dress in clothes that I like and feel comfortable in. All in all, you will rarely see me in a dress or skirt that is way above the knees or clothes that are very fitting. I like room to breathe. This is my personal style and I will not impose it on anyone. However, I find it odd that even if I am a visitor I have to be put under scrutiny over what I am wearing. I try not to be disrespectful when going to new places, but telling me not to wear a piece of jewellery is taking it a bit too far.

What do you think about being subjected to dressing rules even when you are a guest? Do share in the comments below.
