When it comes to favourites in my wardrobe, skirts come at the bottom of the list. Don’t get me wrong. I appreciate skirts but I don’t find them flattering on my body. Be that as it may, I do have a few skirts that I reach for once in a while. But I don’t necessarily go out of my way to buy them.
This skirt was bought under duress. My mum and sister pointed out how nice it looked and seeing as I had been on the hunt for checked items to wear in the winter, I bought this skirt and another that I’m yet to wear.
I loved the colour and the fact that the heavier knitted fabric works perfectly for the colder weather. The flap at the back gave this midi skirt a touch of the unexpected.
Styling it though was a bit of a chore. The under-the-knee length made it difficult to find shoes that would elevate the outfit as a whole. I’m not used to wearing awkward lengths. Most of my dresses are either knee-length, slightly above the knee or floor length. So I know which shoes look good with what.
However, with this skirt, I could only think of wearing it with some stilettos. Maybe eventually I will try it with sneakers or some long boots but for now, this was the best I could do.
I threw on a necklace and red lip and I loved the outcome.
I haven’t sworn off skirts completely so you’ll definitely find some thrown in the mix. But for now, my love for pieces that are versatile and that bring me joy will not see me reaching for skirts any time soon.
Do you have any tips on styling skirts (or dresses) that are of an awkward length?
Thank you for stopping by.
