My Style

Hi all!
I consider maxi skirts to be a timeless piece that can be worn over a very long period of time. They are also very flexible that there are innumerable ways in which one can wear them. As a result, I present to you, one skirt, five ways in this week’s Throwback Thursday, which is a new series on the blog.
I was given this maxi skirt as a gift while I was in India. I believe it is an ethnic Indian skirt. I love the color, and small patterns it has, not to mention the length and volume.
1. A day in the park
I wore this maxi skirt one Sunday, earlier this year to Church and later for an afternoon exploring one of the parks in Nairobi. I paired it with a dusty pink top, wedge sandals and a clutch.
2. Cropped out maxi
This is one of my favorite outfits of 2013. I paired this same maxi skirt with a DIY crop top, sequin and lace scarf, clutch bag and pointy toe heels to go to Church. And… this pic was used by Bata Kenya on their blog while talking about suitable shoes to wear with maxis (insert silly grin).
3. Colour-blocked maxi
This was my first attempt at the colour-blocking trend. As you can guess, I was terrified of mixing two unexpected colors and funny enough I did manage to get it right despite all the black I threw in to neutralize the whole outfit. On this particular Sunday, I wore this blue maxi skirt with a yellow top, wide belt, black scarf, handbag and patent leather flats.

4. Casual for a reunion
During one of the functions I attended while a student in India was an African student’s reunion cum thanksgiving. I paired my maxi skirt with a white t-shirt and embroidered half coat. To accessorize, I wore a beaded necklace, bangles and sandals.

5. Cold weather maxi
The cold weather has not deterred me from wearing my favorite maxi skirt. On one cold Nairobi day, I wore said maxi skirt with a chocolate wool sweater and colorful scarf to beat the cold.
Now I want to try and style this same skirt for maternity wear.

How else have you styled your maxi skirts?
