Baby girl is now 19 months old! Can you believe it has been 19 whole months since she was born?!! As I watch her grow taller every day, I can hardly believe that this little girl came from inside me and she is mine, haha! Elly has become so independent, spending her days running around, playing and destroying things, and she has now fallen in love with the kitchen and wants to help. In fact she now drags a stool to the cooker when she sees me cooking and wants to help stir or to the counter to help prepare ingredients and even to wash dishes.
And her speech is improving every single day. Just yesterday she told her dad that she was “cooking”, and she can say the names of all her aunties and uncles. When she wakes up in the morning she says, “Mum!” so that I can come for her. I have to say that when she calls me, I get a jolt in my heart that reminds me of how lucky I am to have her in my life. Other words that she says are daddy, mama and papa for grandma and grandpa, nuts as in groundnuts, ghurt for yoghurt, please, thank you, sorry, sasa (as in hi), toto (baby), cow, kuku (chicken, the live ones which she enjoys terrorizing), nyama (meat), mamu (tamu, as in something tasty), sweater, kesho (tomorrow). I’m sure there are others but these are the ones that come to mind.
I have mentioned many times that Elly is quite naughty. She is a very mischievous girl and to top it all off, she has the perfected the art of laughing at people. I don’t mind this much because it serves as a reminder not to take myself too seriously especially when I make a mistake.
One of the things that I used to think would be a struggle to teach her was how to drink from a cup on her own, which she does with relish. She goes to the kitchen, brings a cup and takes it to the water dispenser for it to be filled for her. And she had started a bad habit of pouring the water that remained in the cup once she was through with it on the ground, something I have tried to get her to stop with noticeable success.
And can you believe a small act like praying before meals, which I started doing with her has actually stuck as a good habit. She is the one who reminds me now!
I love seeing all these milestones, watching her grow and learn new things every day. I sometimes worry about her hurting herself especially when she is so eager to try out many different things, but I know that I have to let go and give her space to learn and experience different things.
Thank you for stopping by. xo

One of the things I promised myself I would do, ever since this pandemic started and life slowed down, is that I would dress up every single day. Granted, I had nowhere to go, but putting on an outfit, no matter how simple, uplifted my…
