Mid-year Reflections | A breakthrough
Authenticity: congruence between our deeper values and beliefs and our true selves. (Psychology Today)
A few months ago I realized that I needed to make a few changes in my life. With the lessons I learnt in 2021 still fresh on my mind, I knew that I couldn’t continue living the way I had done. Something needed to change and that change had to be internal, before it translated externally. Personal development became my project for the rest of the year so you can imagine my excitement when I was invited to do the Landmark Forum, a personal development program.
It was during the Forum that I had the biggest breakthrough in years. One was that fear, although ever present, is meaningless. I decide what power I want to give fear over my life. Lesson number two was that I must be authentic at all times be it in my dealings with others or with myself.
I will confess that over the years I have let fear cripple me. I held myself back, was afraid of speaking up for myself or even going after what I wanted. I became quite aware of what fear has cost me, all the opportunities I have denied myself because I was afraid, and yet, fear is just like any other emotion and you determine it’s role in your life.
At the end of the forum, which I would advice anyone looking for a breakthrough in their lives to do, I learned that I can choose to be in every part of my life, to love and revel in it, instead of letting life happen to me and being miserable about it. In the same vein, I chose to embrace parts of my life that had previously been difficult for me to accept. This opened me up to living an authentic life, one of peace and joy, seeing the lesson and opportunity in every challenge rather than complaining all the time.
With these lessons in mind, I chose my word of the second half of 2022: Outstanding. I choose to be outstanding in my work, family life, and friendships. I choose to put in my best foot forward in everything that I set my mind on doing.
I choose to make the rest of 2022, the best it can be.

One of the things I promised myself I would do, ever since this pandemic started and life slowed down, is that I would dress up every single day. Granted, I had nowhere to go, but putting on an outfit, no matter how simple, uplifted my…
