Just the other day I was speaking to a friend and he was telling me about some life challenges that he was facing. As he was speaking, something I had read not too long ago came to mind.
Life is full of ups and downs. When you finally get through one hurdle another one quickly pops up and somehow seems to grow from a mole hill into a mountain before you even have a chance to recover from the first hurdle. But you know what? That is what life is made out of.
Life cannot be smooth sailing all the way. If it were, you’d never learn how to fight for the things that you want. You’d never know how to fight for that relationship you really wanted or for that job position you have been coveting. You’d never learn how to work hard for that A in that course you are taking or for better treatment from coworkers, a friend or spouse.
If life were smooth, you’d never learn how to appreciate all the good things that are happening now in your life. You’re alive and healthy, you have a roof over your head, clothes on your back and a warm meal at the end of the day. You have family and friends who love you, children who idolize you and colleagues who admire your strong work ethic. You have managed to achieve one, or more, of your goals and have the means to achieve even more. There are so many things to be thankful for on a daily basis.
It is always darkest just before the dawn. The next time you get tempted to wallow because your weekend plans got ruined by an unexpected cold, smile because you have an excuse to lie in bed for two days, doing nothing but resting your weary body, without worrying about anything. If you find that you don’t have money for this or that venture you wish to pursue, perhaps that is a sign that you need to reevaluate your options and perhaps take a different route to reach your goal.
Life is full of ups and downs but with a positive outlook, you can easily maneuver through life worrying very little about what isn’t working out for you and instead focusing on all the good that is happening around you.
Thank you for stopping by. xo
